Final Exam
Part 1
Title: Looking Up
shutter speed: 1/200 sec
f-stop: f/5.6
This is my favorite picture I took this year because of how clear the flowers look. I captured this picture at the perfect moment as the sky was cloudy, but the sun was trying to peek through giving this perfect "cloud lighting,"making these little flowers really stand out. The colors are so vibrant and the aperture was just perfect enough that you can see the detail down to the pollen on the flowers.
Title: Cartwheel Crazy
shutter speed: 1/200 sec
f-stop: f/3.5
I love this picture and the use of montage. My sister was captured at 4 perfect timings thanks to shutter speed really defined three movements. I love the use of black and white and the vibrant hypnotizing colors of the pizza sign making the image take on its full effect. This was a growth moment changing the sizes of my sister and overlaying the sign to make this photo unique.
Title: Corrosive
shutter speed:1/800 sec
f-stop: f/4.5
I love this picture for the little details shown. This picture looks like it was pulled out of the 90s. I love the dramatic look mixed with dark dusty filter overlaying this picture. This was one of my first pictures used that was very dark which is a quite different approach for me. The lighting was perfect giving it this grunge feeling.
Title: Old Horse
shutter speed: 1/400 sec
f-stop: f/5.0
I love the use of aperture in this photo. I took many pictures with the horse, but this was my favorite showing her eating the grass and the beautiful colors shown in the flower. This picture shows amazing detail in the flower giving it an obvious texture.
Title: Love Lasts
shutter speed: 1/200 sec
f-stop: f/4.0
This is one of my favorites for a personal reason. I love the overlay I applied to this picture. This picture was definitely a growth picture as it opened up my mind to a different aspect I never worked with before. I combined an old picture with a recent to make this successful. As this was quite difficult process to overlay without looking weird, but I finally mastered it in a way that my parents now became the subject and showing the history of their love.
Part 2
Photography has taken on a whole new aspect of art. Some of the most beautiful images come out of the most unaware places. Feuerbach states, "our era prefers the image to the thing."Images have a way of captivating the audience's attention into one of our memories in our life span. Photography has a spiritual meaning as stated in the Bible, all images are made in the image and likeness of God. When a photographer captures the right moment, God's work is apparent and perfect.
In 1843, The Essence of Christianity came about stating that photography has a way of capturing the existence and the being of God's work. This statement is very true in many cases. All pictures captured had something of God's creation. No matter if it was through a person (God's creation) who made something or a beautiful picture of the jungle, God created it all. Imagery effects faith because it gives us something to believe in. Looking at amazing images makes one realize, God is extraordinary. There has to be hope that you will capture the perfect picture because God gave a photographer the ability to take and acquire his work. Looking at work this semester has opened my eye to the endless possibilities. The more interested into Photography I become, the more questions I have. The way certain things work, we will never know the answers to them completely. As a Christian artist, there will always be those times of challenging God and frustration, but having faith relieves these tensions. Something unseen can be proven real imagery because our minds exceed what is seen. Our curious brains are always stimulating beyond our images into beliefs.
In conclusion, Photography challenges our beliefs by creating ways to capture God's beauty. God created us to question beyond our beliefs and challenge new ideas. Our faith gives us hope to believe in a greater Power, God. Our world is filled with beauty. A photographer's eye can catch details that have astonishing characteristics that make us believe something that amazing could be only made by God. A photographer is only as good as when they test themselves and are aware of God's presence in their images.
Part 3
1. This picture was taken by Vicky Woodburn while she was one vacation and I have been obsessed with it since the day I saw it. This picture is so high quality and so professorially done as it almost looks like a painting. I love this picture for the advanced detail shown in the leaves and the fog blocking out the back trees. I have learned to try new things and get out of my comfort level. Vicky just carried her camera everywhere with her on her trip and she was able to capture this amazing picture.
2. I have really grown over the course of this semester. I have opened up to new ideas with the help of different topics that have helped me experience photography on a whole new level. I have learned new techniques and can say proudly that I am more confident in taking pictures and asking for help and guidance if needed.
3. I have opened up to new ideas, but I want to continue to grow. I want to work on getting photos at the right shot and work on becoming less frustrated with a photo if it doesn't come out as I planned. My cousin is getting married at the beach this summer and I want to be prepared to take on the responsibility of their photographer. This summer I will continue to take pictures and come up with new ideas to help prepare with the wedding, Photo 2 next year, and my photography career.
4. I have a whole new aspect to my surroundings because of this class. Everyday when I driving I see things and think, I will have to come back and photograph this spot. Some places I have passed so many times have become apparent and I have recognized the beauty and opportunity to photograph. For example, I have noticed these little flowers by my house recently that I have never noticed before. I took a picture of these flowers and till this day is one of my best pictures.
5. I have seen a new level of art when taking pictures of Urban Decay. When I took my pictures in downtown Kent, the ideas were endless. I loved taking pictures of old buildings and the rust that are decaying. This class has opened my eyes to even trash becoming art. I love the detail and unknown story which makes it my favorite thing to photograph. Before this class, I would not even have thought of taking pictures of the rust on old objects, but the image comes out quite amazing. It could become quite frustrating when I would take pictures and they would not turn out how I thought they would, but being successful has led me to accept making mistakes and trying many times to get the perfect picture.
